A webinar titled “Digitalized and Inclusive Justice Systems: Reimagining the Future of the Judiciary” was held on 12 May 2026, hosted by Jeba Mobashwira and featuring Barrister Tansuva Shelley as the guest speaker. The session was attended by 27 participants.
The discussion focused on the current state of judicial digitalization in Bangladesh and the challenges of building an inclusive and technology-driven justice system. The speaker highlighted existing digital initiatives, including digital cause lists, online case tracking systems, virtual hearings, and pilot e-court projects. While these initiatives have improved access to judicial services, the judiciary still lacks a fully integrated national digital infrastructure.
The session also explored the role of legal aid services and mandatory mediation in reducing case backlogs. Participants learned how mediation mechanisms and legal aid offices can provide efficient dispute resolution and lessen the burden on courts. However, public awareness regarding these services remains limited.
A significant part of the discussion addressed judicial delays, cybercrime, and digital evidence. The speaker emphasized that digitalization alone cannot resolve delays caused by lengthy investigations, inadequate forensic facilities, and institutional coordination problems. The growing importance of cyber security, digital evidence authentication, and technical expertise within the justice sector was also highlighted.
Furthermore, the webinar examined the potential of blockchain technology to enhance transparency, accountability, and data security within judicial processes. Challenges associated with virtual courts, digital accessibility, and public trust in online systems were also discussed. The speaker stressed the need for stronger implementation of existing laws, greater public awareness, and continuous capacity building.
The session concluded by emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in judicial innovation. Young people were encouraged to contribute to legal and technological reforms, identify systemic loopholes, and help build a secure, accessible, and efficient digital justice system. Overall, the webinar provided valuable insights into the opportunities, challenges, and future direction of judicial digitalization in Bangladesh.
